Nantero in Partnership with Lockheed Martin Demonstrates Survivability of Carbon Nanotubes in Space

In a recent NASA space mission the survivability of nanotube-based NRAM memory was demonstrated. NRAM is developed jointly by Nantero and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT). Harris & Harris (NASDAQ: TINY) is one of the primary investors in Nantero.

Not exactly new news, but on October 7, 2009 Harris & Harris (NASDAQ: TINY) held its “Meet the Portfolio Day” in San Francisco. Sixteen of the fund’s most mature companies CEOs were on hand to discuss their specific businesses. The Webcast is available online here.

Publicly traded venture capital fund Harris & Harris reported financial results as of September 30. Investments in portfolio companies total $70,049,615. The VC firm holds $66,791,000 in U.S. Treasuries. Assets total $139,136,433. Net asset value per share is $4.30. NAV/share is $0.03 cents better than last quarter (6/30/09) but down by $0.38 from the same quarter last year.

Harris & Harris Invest in Cambrios

peHUB reports that Harris & Harris (Nasdaq: TINY) has participated in the Series D fund raising by nanotech company Cambrios. Based in Mountain View CA, Cambrios makes bio-directed materials for the electronics industry. Cambrios raised $14M.

Harris & Harris Make VC Investment in Metabolon Inc.

Nanotechnology venture capital firm Harris & Harris participated in a new round of financing for the biotech diagnostic firm Metabolon Inc. The Series C funding raised an additonal $6 million in capital for Metalbolon Inc.
“Metabolon Inc., a Durham, N.C.-based provider of biomarker discovery and analysis, has raised $6 million in additional Series C funding. The round total is now $12.3 million, and the company has raised over $25 million in total VC funding. Syngenta Ventures and Fletcher Spaght Ventures were joined by return backers Sevin Rosen Funds, Aurora Funds, Harris and Harris Group, Fulcrum Financial Partners and Alexandria Equities.”

“TINY in a tailspin”

Motley Fool ran an article on Friday about Harris & Harris recent stock performance issues. Since reaching a high of $6.75 on 9/22/09 TINY has declined more than 25% after issuing new stock and diluting current shareholder value. Despite the decline, the article goes on to say many remain optimistic on stocks long term prospects.
